Recently, the winners of the 2022 “Higher Education Press Cup" National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students sponsored by the China Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM) were announced. GZCCC students won two national second prizes. As one of the first batch items listed in the "Ranking of University Disciplines Competition ", the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for College Students is also the largest and most recognized basic discipline competition among the colleges and universities in China at home and abroad. This competition attracted 1606 colleges/campuses, 54,257 teams (49,424 teams form undergraduate colleges and 4,833 teams from three-year colleges), totally more than 160,000 students from China, Britain, Malaysia and other countries enrolling in the competition.
In order to get prepared for this competition, GZCCC set up a modeling coaching team consisting of five teachers from the School of Information Engineering, including Liu Jun, Huang Minghui, Shao Chao, Fang Qiuyu and Zeng Qingjian. From the elective course of “Fundamentals of Mathematical Modeling” to the intensive training of mathematical modeling, the teachers guide students to refine modeling methods continuously, familiarize students with modeling programming, consolidate optimization theory, conduct simulation practice for many times, and effectively improve their level and ability to solve problems. In the provincial competitions, GZCCC students has won 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 5 third prizes and 4 winning prizes. GZCCC topped among the vocational colleges of Guangdong province.

Since the establishment of the mathematical modeling competition team in 2015, the college has won 10 national awards and nearly100 provincial awards. These achievements not only show the comprehensive ability of our students to establish mathematical models and use computer technology to solve practical problems, but also reflect the educational reform achievements of promoting learning, teaching and innovation through competition.
